A ten-year-old girl died inside a locked washroom of a tuition centre in Ichhra, Lahore on Thursday, prompting police to open an investigation into her death.

Police said that the girl, identified as Naima, had been going to the tuition centre for about one and a half years. On the day of the incident she went for regular classes, however, she was later found unconscious in the washroom of the centre, which had been locked from inside.

Teachers, family members and people living nearby broke open the door after they realised the girl was missing. She was put on a motorcycle and taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Forensic teams examined the spot before the body was moved to a morgue and was later sent for post mortem to establish the cause of death.

Model Town SP (Superintendent of Police) Asad Ali reached the site along with police officials. He mentioned that the exact circumstances of the girl’s death would only be known once the investigation and post mortem report were complete.

Naima’s father said that he was informed over the phone that his daughter had fallen unconscious at the centre. He added that she had been attending the same academy for around one and a half years and that two other girls from the family were also enrolled there.

He said that the doctors had asked him whether there were any marks on his daughter’s neck before the incident. He answered that there were none when she left home that day. He suspected foul play and asked authorities to ensure that justice is served.

Police said that no possibility has been ruled out at this stage and that every aspect of the case is being looked into.
