The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation after 12 Pakistanis, including seven residents of Lahore’s Batapur area, were allegedly abducted in Iran while attempting to travel illegally to Italy through the “Dunki” route.

According to the FIA, the victims were reportedly kidnapped by human traffickers after entering Iran. The abductors initially demanded Rs1 million from each individual’s family but have now raised the ransom to $6,000 per person, warning of serious consequences if the money is not paid.

The families approached the FIA and lodged a formal complaint, seeking the recovery of the abducted men and action against those responsible.

FIA has initiated an inquiry and referred the matter to its Iran liaison officer for coordination and verification. Officials said that the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle has formally launched an investigation into the incident.

The inquiry will examine the circumstances surrounding the victims’ illegal journey and identify those involved in facilitating their travel.

According to the complainants, all 12 individuals were abducted in Iran during their journey to Italy. Seven of the victims belong to Batapur, Lahore, while the remaining five are from other areas.

FIA officials said the investigation is under way and further action will be taken in light of the findings and information received through the agency’s liaison officer in Iran.
