A 12-year-old madrasa student has died in the Chamber area of Sindh’s Tando Allahyar after allegedly being raped, police officials have said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Syed Saleem Shah said that initial investigation suggested the child was drugged before the alleged assault took place, and three suspects have already been arrested.
Preliminary evidence has pointed to possible signs of abuse, the SSP said, noting that the complete facts would emerge only after the postmortem examination is conducted.
The case comes days after police arrested a faith healer, identified as Ramoo Kolhi, on July 9 over allegations of raping two teenage cousins in Mirpurkhas.
Reports quoted sources as saying that one of the girls died due to the assault, while the other was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad in critical condition.
Mirpurkhas police said the victims, aged 13 and 14, were cousins and that one of them had gone to the faith healer along with her cousin seeking help to bring back her mother who was upset with her.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly gave the girls an intoxicating drink before sexually assaulting them with the help of an accomplice.
An FIR [First Information Report] was registered on the complaint of the deceased girl’s father, under charges of abduction, rape and murder.
