Security forces have killed 13 militants while foiling two infiltration attempts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the military’s media wing said on Thursday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the incidents occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday when militants linked to the Indian-sponsored Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) tried to cross into Pakistan.
According to the ISPR, movement of a group attempting to infiltrate through the border in Mohmand district was detected by security forces.
“Own troops effectively engaged this group of khwarij. As a result of precise and skilful engagement, eight khwarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna al-Khwarij were sent to hell,” the statement said.
The ISPR confirmed that a second attempt was foiled in North Waziristan district, where security forces engaged another group in an exchange of fire, killing five militants.
The statement noted that the incidents reflected Pakistan’s position on the Afghan Taliban government’s inability to ensure border control on its side.
“Afghan Taliban regime must fulfil its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by khwarij and prevent the involvement of its citizens in terrorism inside Pakistan,” ISPR stated.
It added that security forces remained committed to defending the country’s borders, while clearance operations were underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The ISPR said that the counterterrorism campaign under “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the federal apex committee on the National Action Plan, will continue.
Separately, eight civilians, including women and children, were injured in cross-border firing and shelling in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan on April 26 and 29, according to a press release issued by the office of the deputy commissioner South Waziristan Lower.
