A 14-year-old student in Thailand has killed seven, including his grandparents, and injured 15 others.
As per the details, the shooting occurred at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, just north of Bangkok.
The suspected shooter, who was killed, also allegedly shot dead his grandparents at their home before heading to school, Thailand’s public health minister said.
Police said the 9mm handgun used in the attack belonged to the boy’s grandfather, who was a teacher. The student fired 26 rounds at the scene, while 34 additional rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Authorities revealed that five of those killed at the school were teachers. The assailant himself was also found dead, bringing the total number of deaths to eight.
Lt Col Dechrapee Kongdee, commander of the Nonthaburi provincial police, confirmed the casualties and said the suspected gunman had killed himself.
Thai national police spokesperson Trairong Phiwphan also reported eight deaths and 15 injuries.
An 18-year-old student at the school told media he initially mistook the sound of gunfire for firecrackers or someone striking an object.
“I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
The shooting follows another gun attack at a Thai school earlier this year. In February, a teacher was killed and a student wounded after a gunman opened fire at a school in the southern Hat Yai district.
