15 Bangladeshi cricketers arrested in Malaysia
15 Bangladeshi cricketers have been arrested in Malaysia after being denied entry into the country, foreign media reports have said. The players were reportedly travelling to Malaysia to participate in a tournament.
However, Malaysian authorities discovered that the tournament in question did not exist, leading to the cricketers' arrest. The operation was carried out by Malaysia's Border Control and Protection Agency which detained the players on March 17 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The cricketers had claimed they were travelling for a tournament organized by the Penang Cricket Association, but investigations revealed that no such event was scheduled to be played.
According to media reports, the group stated that the tournament was set to take place between March 21 and 23, but authorities found no official schedule for such an event. Legal proceedings regarding the matter are currently underway.
