A terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Tank district resulted in the martyrdom of 15 individuals, including 14 security personnel and one government employee, the military’s media wing has stated.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the assault occurred early Friday morning, attributing the act to Fitna-al-Khawarij, a designation used by state authorities for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Security forces deployed at the post repelled initial attempts by attackers to breach the perimeter wall. Personnel on duty engaged the assailants, resulting in the deaths of 12 terrorists during the encounter.

After the initial shootout, attackers drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the boundary wall. The resulting blast caused severe structural damage to the facility, leading to the casualties.

“Due to [the] blast impact, infrastructure at [the] checkpost was seriously damaged; resultantly, 15 brave sons of [the] soil, including 12 military, two policemen and a government official ex forest department, rendered the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat,” the ISPR statement read.

Military authorities confirmed that a sanitisation operation remains underway to search for remaining operatives in the vicinity.

“These sacrifices of our brave soldiers further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs,” the military media wing noted, adding that counter-terrorism actions under the Azm-i-Istehkam framework will proceed without interruption.
