A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in Bahawalpur for allegedly attempting to poison his father after seeking instructions from artificial intelligence (AI) on how to prepare poison.
According to reports citing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the watchdog’s Punjab chapter arrested the teenager and also uncovered a laboratory allegedly set up by the student at his home.
The teenager was influenced by the crime series Breaking Bad, which investigators linked to his interest in preparing poison, the agency reported, adding that the suspect had obtained chemicals for the substance from Australia and Islamabad.
The teenager allegedly made an initial attempt to poison his father, but the attempt was unsuccessful. He then sought further guidance from an AI system.
The case came to the attention of Pakistani authorities after the NCCIA received intelligence information from abroad.
The case has raised questions over the potential misuse of AI tools and the online activities of children and teenagers, NCCIA said.
The agency did not disclose the specific chemicals allegedly obtained by the teenager or provide details of the charges against him.
