A 17-year-old girl has allegedly been killed by her brother in Karachi’s Orangi Town after her family learned that she had secretly gotten married without informing them.
Police identified the victim as Zarqa Bibi, daughter of Muhammad Rais Khan. She was shot once in the head at a house in Bismillah Colony, Sector 10, within Mominabad police station limits.
Her body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after the shooting.
According to police sources, Zarqa had married a man and told her family about the marriage last night before showing them her nikahnama.
The disclosure allegedly angered her brother Safir Khan and other relatives. Police sources said that some relatives then provoked Safir to kill his sister, after which he allegedly shot her in the head.
Safir fled the scene after the shooting. Police are carrying out raids to arrest him.
