An 18-month-old minor died in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area following a sexual assault, leading police to arrest a teenage relative in connection with the crime on Wednesday.
Police identified the suspect as Abdul Manan, a 17-year-old relative who frequently visited the family’s home. According to officials and family members, the suspect took the minor from her house under the pretense of buying her something from a nearby shop.
The minor’s father explained the sequence of events involving the suspect’s routine visits to the residence.
The suspect returned the minor to her family after approximately 20 minutes. Upon his return, the child’s physical condition had deteriorated drastically.
The family rushed the minor to a hospital for immediate medical treatment. Attending doctors found physical evidence confirming sexual assault. The minor succumbed to the injuries during treatment.
Following the hospital visit, the suspect fled the immediate vicinity. Madadgar 15 police officers were dispatched to the area after receiving an emergency call and apprehended the suspect.
Authorities placed the suspect under arrest and transferred custody to the Defence police station for legal proceedings.
Chhipa sources confirmed that workers transported the minor’s body from the Chhipa morgue to her home in Qayyumabad’s D Area after completing funeral preparations.
The victim’s family has requested police authorities to ensure full legal justice, while officials continue the formal investigation into the incident.
