An 18-year-old girl has been shot dead in what appeared to be a case of so-called honour killing in Karachi’s Korangi Mehran Town, with her husband, his brother and an accomplice named as suspects in the murder.
According to reports, Sanam had been declared “kari” in Shikarpur district in interior Sindh. Fearing for her life, she fled to Karachi and took refuge at her uncle’s home in Mehran Town.
Police said that Sanam’s husband Zulfiqar travelled from Shikarpur to Karachi and raided her uncle’s house along with his brother and other accomplices.
The group opened fire on Sanam, killing her on the spot. All suspects fled the scene after the attack.
The girl’s body was shifted to hospital for legal formalities. Police registered a case and launched raids to arrest the suspects, with authorities vowing to bring those responsible to justice swiftly.
