Islamabad authorities have decided to close educational activities at 24 government institutions from Tuesday, September 22, as additional police personnel are being accommodated in schools ahead of planned long marches.
Media reports have stated that the institutions will remain closed while arrangements are made to house police personnel arriving in the capital. No decision has been made so far on online classes or alternative arrangements for students during the closure.
The affected institutions include schools in G-6, F-6 and G-7 sectors, along with selected schools in Tarnol, Sangjani, Sihala, Nara and the Rawal Dam area.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have announced long marches towards Islamabad. Authorities have placed containers at various roads in the capital as part of security arrangements.
Around 15,000 additional police personnel are expected to be accommodated in educational institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with officers arriving from different districts of Punjab expected to reach the twin cities within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Rawalpindi Police have also approached the district administration to seek the closure of 38 educational institutions where police personnel arriving from across Punjab are expected to stay.
Authorities are taking security measures in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as preparations continue for the planned protests and to maintain law and order in the two cities.
