Advocate Ramsha Iqbal, sister of actress Momina Iqbal, has said that 26 more women, including two actresses, have come forward to pursue legal action against Saqib Chadhar, adding that she has shared details of their cases with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Ramsha said that she had informed the agency about the 26 women and provided details when members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) met with her.
“We mentioned that there were 26 girls, and we also informed the NCCIA about their cases. When the Joint Investigation Team came to speak to us, we provided them with all the details,” she said.
Ramsha said that the team had asked her to encourage the women to come forward and record their statements. However, she questioned why the women should take that step when the composition of the investigation team had changed and, in her view, one person had received significant privileges.
“They told us to motivate the girls to come forward and record their statements,” she stated.
“I told them, if the Joint Investigation Team changes overnight without any reason, with all the people in the department being replaced and such extensive privileges being given to one person, then tell me, if I ask these women to come forward, take a stand and give a statement, why will they do it?”
She stated that she had also found it difficult to justify continuing to stand up in the case, given the circumstances. “Personally, I did not even feel that it was worth standing up in this case,” she said.
However, Ramsha said she continued doing so because she wanted to establish a precedent and ensure that someone listened to the matter and took a stand.
“That is why I am standing here. Otherwise, it has been extremely challenging. It has not been easy at all,” she stressed.
During the press conference, Ramsha also said that she had decided to present evidence after facing pressure and what she described as attempts to malign her and her family through the media.
She thanked those who had supported her and said that no woman should have to endure the pressure she had faced.
Ramsha maintained that the documents she presented at her previous press conference were certified copies. She also stated that decisions by the Punjab Bar and other relevant forums on complaints filed against her had been in her favour.
Questioning why her opponents had failed to establish their allegations before the high court, she alleged that they had repeatedly tried to humiliate her but had not appeared before the courts themselves.
She said that the allegations against her remained unproven and that the relevant institutions could determine the facts.
