Local authorities have arrested 284 foreigners from a call centre in Islamabad’s Gulberg Greens area over alleged involvement in illegal activities and cancelled their visas.

The foreigners are expected to be deported from Pakistan within 15 days. Their names will also be placed on the blacklist and Foreigners Control List, according to officials.

A plaza in Gulberg Greens where the foreigners were arrested has been declared a sub-jail through an official notification. The notification stated that the building will retain the status until further orders, with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) responsible for its administration.

FIA Director General Dr Usman has said that the investigation had uncovered several serious findings, including using fake identities of women to contact Pakistani citizens and targeted them through different applications by offering investment opportunities.

The FIA chief said that several Pakistani citizens suffered financial losses as a result of the fraud.

Authorities have also identified local facilitators and handlers who were allegedly working with the culprits, according to the FIA.

Sources have said that the investigation is also looking into the possible involvement of some government officials in facilitating the activities.
