A passenger bus traveling from Quetta to Peshawar plunged into a ravine near the provincial border between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday, resulting in the deaths of 40 people and injuries to eight others.
The incident took place just as the vehicle exited the Dana Sar area within the Sherani district of Balochistan and crossed over into the Dera Ismail Khan district of KP.
A statement released by Shahid Rind, the aide for media and political affairs to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, confirmed the casualty figures. “According to initial reports, 40 people have been killed and eight others injured in the accident,” Rind stated.
Prior to the statement, Sherani Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wali Khan Kakar confirmed the location and specifics of the crash. Kakar stated that rescue teams dispatched by the district administration, alongside emergency ambulances, arrived at the scene immediately after the vehicle fell.
Kakar noted that rescue operations remained underway following the incident, and workers shifted the injured passengers to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Regarding the passenger count, Kakar noted that the bus originally departed from Quetta carrying 36 passengers. However, the vehicle picked up additional travelers along the route after another passenger bus broke down midway through its journey.
Following the crash, the provincial government of Balochistan issued an official statement expressing grief over the fatalities and extending condolences to the families of the victims.
