Deepika Padukone is in a celebratory mood as her film Bajirao Mastani completes five years since its release.

The actress shared a stunning unseen picture from the sets of the film with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and penned a note on her character Mastani. Her post gathered more than a million likes in just a few hours.

Tagging her co-stars Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh in the post, Deepika wrote, “Whether, in love or war, Mastani was fuelled by her passion, unafraid to write her own destiny, no matter how perilous the path. She never bowed down and always stood her ground with a fierce dignity and a love so strong that its burning embers seared through every societal constraint, to join both her and her lover’s names, for all of eternity.”

Deepika also changed her name on her social media handles to Mastani.

Bajirao Mastani, a love story of a Maratha warrior, Bajirao (played by Singh) and a warrior princess Mastani (played by Deepika), was released in 2015. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film was reportedly in the works for 12 years.

In an interview, Bhansali had said: “I took 12 years to make Bajirao Mastani. I waited nine years to make Ram Leela and I had to wait eight years from the time I did Padmavati, the opera on stage, in Paris to get to the film. I’ve enjoyed making these movies so much. They were very challenging. How to put things into a big frame and how to spend money are things that I’m obsessing about all the time.”

Bajirao Mastani clashed at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale and emerged the winner. The film collected Rs 184 crores at the box office while SRK’s Dilwale grossed Rs 148 crores.
