Seven-year-old Sarim, a child who went missing from North Karachi on January 7, has been found after 11 days.

The SSP Central, in a statement on Saturday, said that the body of the minor boy was found in an underground water tank near his home in Karachi’s North Karachi area.

The child’s body was recovered from a water tank covered with makeshift cardboard, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.

However, the police official stated that it appears the incident occurred accidentally. For further clarification, the body has been sent for a postmortem, and the report is awaited.

A private news channel reported that the child went missing nearly two weeks ago, leading to extensive investigation by the police and family members.

He was a student at Madrasah Al Quran and had gone to his seminary on January 7 but never returned.

The child’s father, Parvez, went to the seminary to ask about his son but was told by the administration that his son had left for home at 3:40 pm.

As the father was returning from the seminary, he spotted Sarim's gloves lying on the stairs inside the mosque.

Reportedly, Sarim’s parents received a ransom message demanding Rs. 500,000.

The police were unable to determine the child’s whereabouts until last week. Additionally, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori visited the child’s house to express his support and assured the parents of full cooperation in the recovery of the child.

The police stated that they are investigating possible foul play or assault in the case.

Residents of Sarim’s neighbourhood expressed shock over his recovery, stating that law enforcement had checked the tank twice during the search but failed to find any sign of the child. Some speculated that the child’s body may have remained submerged and surfaced over time.

Sarim’s parents were devastated after seeing his body.
