Pakistani actor and host Ali Safina has denied any role in the breakup of singer Asim Azhar and actor Meerub Ali, saying that a question he asked on his podcast was taken out of context.
As per the details, Safina addressed the speculation during an appearance on Nadia Khan’s morning show Rise and Shine, pushing back when asked if a question he posed to Meerub on his podcast triggered the couple’s split.
“We are all very good friends. I also had worked with her, so I just asked a question. Also, when we work together, we develop a good camaraderie. I just asked a question, she replied to it in fun,” he said.
The controversy traces back to a podcast episode in which Safina jokingly asked Meerub whether Asim ever sings his song “O Haniya O Dil Janiya” for her, a reference to the singer’s rumoured former relationship with actor Hania Aamir.
During the morning show, Safina also pointed to a social media video by a user named Abdullah as the moment that amplified the speculation online.
Asim Azhar announced the end of his engagement to Meerub Ali in June 2025 via Instagram, stating they had decided to part ways peacefully.
The couple had been engaged for nearly three years. Meerub Ali responded to the split on Instagram Stories, writing, “God knows. and that’s enough.”
Since the breakup, Asim Azhar has been linked in media reports to Hania Aamir, with the two having been spotted together at public events. Neither of the two has confirmed a relationship.
