Singer Adnan Sami has responded to a joke comedian Aaditya Kulshreshth, known as Kullu, made about Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film Udta Teer on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent.
Khurrana appeared on the show to promote the film. Kullu, while mentalist Suhani Shah and comedian Rajat Sood joined him. When the hosts asked whether he had come to promote the film, Khurrana said, “Nahi, bilkul bhi nahi.”
Khurrana described Udta Teer as “India’s first patriotic comedy” and called it a spy comedy. He plays a Pakistani spy who comes to India and loses his memory. The character remembers that he is patriotic but forgets which country he belongs to.
“Spy main hoon. Pakistani spy India mein aur uski yaaddasht chali jaati hai aur woh sochta hai ki woh Indian hai. Toh usko deshbhakti toh yaad hai, but desh kaun sa hai, woh bhool jaata hai,” Khurrana said.
As he explained the character, Kullu jumped in and said, “Woh Adnan Sami hai.”
Sami reacted to a clip the India’s Got Latent page posted. “Pehle Mujhse ‘Rights’ Lo Aur Phir Film Banao!!!! [First take the ‘rights’ from me, and then make the film!!!!]” he wrote.
Other users also reacted to the clip. One wrote, “Adnan ko ku tora [Why did you break Adnan?]”, while another said, “Our major Adnan 🇵🇰😂.” A third user commented, “Welldone adnan Sami still NOT captured 😍👏🔥🙌,” and another joked, “Don’t reveal our secret agent’s identity 👀.” One person wrote, “Adnan Sami jokes are favourite one old twitter days.”
The joke refers to the singer’s history of being trolled over his Pakistani roots and Indian citizenship. Sami was born in Pakistan and became an Indian citizen in 2016. Pakistani users have trolled him over that decision, while some Indian social media users have called him a “Pakistani agent” or questioned his loyalty at different points. Sami has often reacts to such trolling when he posts about India or the Indian Army.
