Recently, tennis star Naomi Osaka announced that she would not attend press conferences because of her anxiety and mental health struggles.
According to our Op-Ed writer Zahoor Reza, in an ideal world, board officials should have addressed Osaka’s concerns, done what they could do to help her in her bouts against anxiety. Instead, she was pilloried, fined 15 grand, and threatened with suspension following which, she announced to withdraw from the French Open.
This is so sad. I totally agree with him. Mental health and self-care should come ahead of everything else and its high time that people start taking this issue seriously.
