Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has declared reports of a meeting between the former prime minister and an ex-army chief at Adiala jail as “totally fake”.
Khan posted the statement on the social media platform X on Monday following weekend social media chatter regarding the alleged meeting at the facility where Imran Khan remains incarcerated.
Khan stated that she verified the claims with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who confirmed that the reports were untrue.
“All the news circulating on social media that a former army chief met Imran Khan in Adiala jail is fake,” Aleema Khan stated. “It is disinformation, especially spread to distract from the fact that Imran is being tortured through total isolation”.
According to Khan, the reports serve to divert attention from the conditions of Imran Khan’s detention.
She stated that the former prime minister has been denied medical treatment for an eye condition, blocked from speaking to his sons, and restricted from accessing books for six months or television in his cell.
“He has not been allowed contact with anyone from the outside world in the past six months, except two visits by his lawyer on the orders of the court,” Khan stated.
She cited a full-bench court order permitting 18 visitors per week, split into six family members and six lawyers on Tuesdays, and six party members on Thursdays. Khan stated these provisions constitute “lawful rights, under Pakistan’s laws and international laws”.
Medical records show the PTI founder underwent a medical procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on January 24, which the government confirmed days later. He continues to receive follow-up treatments at the facility.
The family stated that Imran Khan’s sons, Kasim and Suleiman, who reside in London with his ex-wife, are barred from telephone contact. The family accused the government of delaying delaying visas for the sons.
PTI continues to stage sit-ins outside Adiala jail on Tuesdays and Thursdays, corresponding with court-mandated visitation days that have remained suspended.
On May 20, Aleema Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi reported that shots were fired at party members participating in a sit-in outside the prison gates.
