Singer Ali Azmat has poked fun at the stars of the “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani” films, saying that the lead actors have grown too old to play young romantic leads.

Azmat appeared in a televised discussion with Vasay Chaudhry, who wrote the films and also appears in them. He said that the lead actors have grown older over the years, yet the films still present them as young romantic leads.

“Jawani tou inki chali gai hai lekin yeh kehtay hein jawani tou inki ani hai. 2-4 budhay budhay hero pakray huye hein unko jawan kesy krna hai [Their youth is long gone, yet they keep saying it’s coming back. They have two or four old heroes, and now they have to make them look young],” he said.

The first film came out in 2015 with stars Humayun Saeed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahmed Ali Butt, Chaudhry and Mehwish Hayat. Nadeem Baig directed it. It became one of the highest-grossing Pakistani films of all time.

The sequel arrived in 2018 and brought back much of the original cast, with Fahad Mustafa, Kubra Khan and Mawra Hocane joining. It became the highest-grossing film at the Pakistani box office at the time of its release.

A third film is now in production. According to reports, Humayun Saeed, Fahad Mustafa, Vasay Chaudhry and Ahmed Ali Butt will return. Saeed will produce, Chaudhry will write the screenplay and Nadeem Baig will direct.

Singer Aima Baig will reportedly make her acting debut as one of the film’s female leads. She sang “Aya Lariye” in the second film.

Sarwat Gilani, who appeared in the first film, will not return.
