Indian businessman Anant Ambani has offered to cover the treatment expenses of a 23-month-old boy suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, according to social media influencer Mayuresh Gujar, who has been leading a fundraising campaign for the child.
Gujar said Ambani stopped his car after noticing the campaign team’s banner near Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja on September 21 and spoke to them for around five minutes.
He said he explained Vedansh Singh’s condition and the campaign to raise funds for his treatment.
According to Gujar, Ambani offered to cover the treatment costs and asked the family to bring Vedansh to their hospital. The two also exchanged contact numbers.
“Anant Ambani sir spoke to us for almost 5 minutes. I explained everything about Vedansh and our mission. He then told us that whatever the expense of Vedansh’s treatment is, he will take care of it, and asked us to get Vedansh to their hospital. We exchanged numbers,” Gujar said.
Gujar also shared a video on social media showing Ambani speaking to Vedansh’s mother over a video call, during which he reaffirmed that he would cover the child’s medical and other treatment-related expenses.
Vedansh, from Sikandarpur village in Haryana, is the only child of Sushant and Harshita Singh.
SMA is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness by affecting motor neurons, the nerve cells responsible for movement.
The family had reportedly been trying to raise funds for nearly a year before Gujar took up the campaign through his initiative Every Home Matters.
Gujar and his team appealed for donations at temples, religious events and other public gatherings across Mumbai.
The team said it had raised around INR2.22 crore after several weeks of campaigning, leaving a substantial gap against the estimated treatment cost.
Gujar said the offer came after weeks of campaigning and described the moment as one in which the team’s efforts suddenly felt worthwhile.
“We are still waiting for confirmation from their team, but we hope to connect soon and begin the procedure. Vedansh is now 23 months old, and every moment matters,” he added.
