A child who got injured in the Murree school van accident has died while receiving treatment at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi, taking the number of deaths from the incident to two.
Eight-year-old Arham Ali, son of Ali Nawaz, suffered burns to 60 percent of his body and died due to the severity of his injuries, HFH Medical Superintendent Dr Ijaz Butt said.
Arham was among four children who suffered severe burns after a school van carrying 12 students veered off the road, rolled down a slope and caught fire in Murree on Tuesday.
Four critically injured students were shifted to HFH from Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Murree for treatment. Ayesha Kaleem, 14, who suffered more than 45 percent burns, died at the hospital a day after the accident and was later buried in a local graveyard in Murree.
Dr Butt said that only one child injured in the accident remains under treatment at HFH.
Eight-year-old Hassan Talib suffered burns to 28 percent of his body and continues to receive medical care at the hospital.
Meanwhile, 11-year-old Abdullah Kaleem, who sustained burns to five percent of his body, has recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.
Police said that seven injured children were treated at THQ Hospital Murree before being allowed to return home, while one remained at the hospital. The van driver and his daughter were also among those injured.
