A woman was reportedly gang-raped by armed robbers on Tuesday in Faisalabad’s Sandal Bar area after the robbers tied up her husband with a shalwar drawstring belt.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the couple was returning home from the Agriculture University Hostel on a motorcycle when two armed men stopped them on the Chak No. 62 JB Channan motorway bridge.

The armed men were described as one of average height, aged around 17–18 years with a skinny build, and the other around 25–26 years with a slim build; both were wearing shalwar kameez.

According to the FIR, the armed men stopped the couple at gunpoint and snatched Rs800 in cash, a mobile phone, and the woman’s identity card before taking the husband to a nearby sugarcane field, where they tied him up.

The suspects then also took the woman to the sugarcane field, and one of the robbers called a third accomplice on a motorcycle. The third suspect, described as tall and well-built, arrived at the scene.

“All three of them raped my wife one by one and then fled the scene,” the FIR read, noting that the victim’s husband initially searched for the suspects himself before reporting the incident to the police the next day, on Wednesday, via the emergency helpline.

Meanwhile, as per the authorities, the victim’s medical examination has been completed, and Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) samples have been sent for forensic analysis.

Police have launched a search operation after filing a case against unidentified suspects under robbery and sexual assault charges.

Geofencing of the crime scene led to the detention of three suspects, and further investigations are underway, as per the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The horrifying crime comes years after two robbers gang-raped a mother of two children on the motorway within the Gujjarpura police’s jurisdiction in September 2020.

The woman was driving to Gujranwala in her car when she was forced to stop at the Gujjarpura section of the motorway after running out of fuel.

According to reports, she immediately called a relative and sent him her location, who asked her to also dial the Motorway Police helpline—130—from which she reportedly received no response.

Meanwhile, two robbers approached the car, broke the window, and took the woman and her children to nearby bushes where they raped the mother repeatedly in front of the children. They also snatched her purse, which contained Rs100,000 in cash, one bracelet, car registration papers, and three Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
