Armed robbers have snatched Rs6 million from a bank customer outside a branch near Safoora Chowrangi in Karachi, firing shots as they fled and injuring an 18-year-old youth inside the premises, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday, when Liaquat Ali arrived at the branch near Memon Hospital to deposit the cash. According to Sachal police, the suspects intercepted him before he could enter the bank and took the money.

Police said Ali resisted the robbers, who then fired several shots before fleeing the area with the cash.

Amir Memon, 18, was inside the bank when the shooting took place. He sustained injuries from fragments of broken glass and mirrors, police said. His condition was later described as out of danger.

The suspects remained at large as police began an investigation into the robbery.

In another incident in the city, a 15-year-old milk seller was killed when a trailer struck his motorcycle in Steel Town on Monday evening, police and rescue officials said.

The victim, Umer Gul, was travelling along the National Highway while delivering milk to a nearby locality when the crash occurred opposite a 100-bed hospital in Steel Town, according to the officials.

Gul died at the scene, they said. His body was subsequently transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

Police arrested the trailer driver, Mohammed Tayyab Asim, following the crash and took the heavy vehicle into custody.

A traffic police official said the initial assessment suggested that excessive speed and reckless driving were factors in the accident.
