Defending champion and Olympic gold-medallist Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the men’s javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after a best throw of 78.63m in the qualification round.
As per the details, Nadeem finished seventh in the standings at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage topped the group with a throw of 82.84m, followed by Grenada’s Anderson Peters in second with 81.29m and South Africa’s Douw Smit in third with 80.64m.
England’s Ben East placed fourth with a best of 80.38m, while India’s Neeraj Chopra finished fifth with 79.61m. Australia’s Cameron McEntyre rounded off the top six with a throw of 78.91m.
Behind Nadeem, the Bahamas’ Keyshawn Strachan finished eighth with 78.60m, India’s Rohit Yadav ninth with 78.37m and India’s Yash Vir Singh tenth with 78.36m.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott took eleventh spot with 78.26m and Nigeria’s Chinecherem Nnamdi completed the top 12 with a throw of 75.27m. Kenya’s Julius Yego finished 13th with 74.50m.
Pakistan’s second entrant, Yasir Muhammad, failed to qualify for the final with a best throw of 74.36m, which placed him 14th in the group, just outside the qualifying positions.
Papua New Guinea’s Lakona Gerega finished 15th with 65.59m, Jamaica’s Elvis Graham was 16th with 65.07m and Tuvalu’s Usufono Eneli finished 17th with 39.28m. Sri Lanka’s Sumedha Ranasinghe recorded no mark in the competition.
The qualification standard for an automatic spot in the final was set at 84.00m, a mark no thrower in Group A reached. With the top 12 across both groups advancing to the final, Nadeem’s seventh-place finish secured his place in the medal round.
The men’s javelin throw final is scheduled for July 31.
