Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in August-September
The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup, is set to be held in Sri Lanka between August 27 and September 11, the Asian Cricket Council announced on Saturday.
The tournament will be played in T20 format this year. Asia Cup 2022 will have six teams – India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and a Qualifier. The sixth team to join the tournament will be one of UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The Asia Cup tournament is held every two years, but the tournament’s governing body, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), cancelled the 2020 edition due to Covid-19 and its restrictions. The Council then considered the June 2021 window for the tournament, which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, but the pandemic once again denied the organisers.
The tournament was last played in 2018 and won by India. The upcoming Asia Cup will be the 15th edition of the competition, which began in Sharjah in 1984
