A domestic dispute ended in the deaths of a couple in Formali village, Hazro town of Attock, after a 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and then took his own life, police sources said.

Police identified the deceased as Mohammad Mushtaq and his wife Ayesha Bibi. Investigators said on Thursday that Mushtaq allegedly strangled Ayesha and subjected her to an electric shock before dying by electrocution himself.

The incident came after Ayesha had approached a court for khula, a legal process for dissolving a marriage, following persistent disputes with her husband.

Their son Mohammad Noman told police that arguments between his parents were frequent and that his mother had sought a divorce several times before filing the khula application.

Mushtaq worked as a Class-IV employee at the District Headquarters Hospital in Attock and had two children, according to police.

After receiving information about the incident, police visited the scene, gathered evidence and began investigating the circumstances of the deaths.

In another incident on Thursday, a butcher, identified as Javaid Akhter, was found dead in a room in Mohallah Mashraqiabad, within the jurisdiction of Taxila Police Station.

Police sources said that Akhter had been under financial pressure over a loan he obtained from local investors at interest. He was reportedly being pressed to clear the outstanding amount before he locked himself in a room and commited suicide.

Police also reported the discovery of a man’s body in an isolated part of a private housing society within the same police station’s jurisdiction. No further details about the deceased or the circumstances surrounding the death were provided.
