A fresh wave of monsoon rains will hit the country on Wednesday, July 29, bringing intense downpours and raising concerns over severe inundation. Meteorological officials have been monitoring weather currents penetrating the upper and central regions of Pakistan alongside an advancing westerly wave.
Heavy showers have lashed major urban centres already, with Lahore recording significant downpours reaching up to 44 millimeters in Mughalpura, 15.8 millimeters in Lakshmi Chowk, 38.6 millimeters in Tajpura, and 26.8 millimeters Johar Town. Local administration staff have been actively clearing waterlogged arteries as continuous precipitation persists across Punjab and other provinces.
Authorities have issued strict warnings regarding potential urban flooding across low-lying districts, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Peshawar, through early August.
Torrential downpours are continuously threatening to trigger flash floods in local streams and hill torrents across Dera Ghazi Khan, Kashmir, and Murree, while vulnerable northern areas remain on high alert for dangerous landslides.
Traffic police authorities have issued active travel advisories, urging motorists to keep safe distances, avoid sudden braking, and exercise extreme caution on slick roads. Rescue departments across the provinces are on high alert to handle emergencies as the weather system continues to sweep across the country.
