Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced on Monday that party founder Imran Khan was temporarily transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) overnight for medical treatment before being sent back to Adiala Jail.
The opposition party used the development to renew its demands for the incarcerated former prime minister to receive continuous clinical care.
In a public statement shared on the social media platform X, Barrister Gohar confirmed the midnight transfer. He wrote “I have just been informed that Khan sab was taken last night to PIMS once again for an injection and then shifted back to Adiyala. We strongly reiterate our demand of shifting him to hospital for treat. We demand meeting with family immediately”.
The development follows a series of specialised medical check-ups and hospital visits for Khan. Reports indicate that the former premier has been undergoing regular treatment for a specific right eye condition diagnosed as central retinal vein occlusion.
He has previously received multiple anti-VEGF intravitreal injections at PIMS, with earlier procedures taking place between January and April to address significant vision reduction.
The opposition has consistently voiced concerns regarding the health of its leader within the Rawalpindi facility, alleging that the government has delayed critical medical assistance.
Khan remains in custody since August 2023, following convictions in various state treasury and corruption cases, alongside separate pending trials under anti-terrorism regulations.
