Farhan Khan, who has directed the new Ainak Wala Jin movie, has responded to allegations made by the creator of the original series, stating that Pakistan Television (PTV) owns the rights to the cult-classic.
“The allegations regarding the rights of Ainak Wala Jin are false and defamatory. The statements made by the former director represent his personal opinion and do not establish the legal position,” Khan told The Current.
He said that he could not share the official agreement with PTV due to confidentiality obligations, but the state-run network had officially promoted the film across its digital and satellite platforms.
“The PTV logo appears on the official Ainak Wala Jin posters. These are publicly verifiable facts, and you may review PTV’s official digital platforms for confirmation,” he added.
Khan also shared his position in a statement on social media.
“The facts are simple: PTV owns the rights to Ainak Wala Jin, and I obtained the legal permission from PTV before making the film. False claims that I ‘stole’ the rights are baseless and nonsense. The future is AI, but it must be built on legal authorisation, and that’s exactly what I did,” the post read.
It merits a mention that the statements come after Hafeez Tahir, the original creator of Ainak Wala Jin, accused the new film’s makers of using his name and concept without permission.
Tahir said that the film, released in cinemas on July 24, was made without his knowledge or involvement. He called the situation “daylight robbery”, adding that the filmmakers had also altered the appearance of the show’s original characters, including its lead Nastoor Jin.
The original Ainak Wala Jin aired on PTV from 1993 to 1996 and became one of Pakistan’s most popular children’s programmes.
The new film is marketed on IMDb as Asia’s first AI-generated feature-length movie.
