President of United States (US) Donald Trump has on Sunday endorsed the recently signed Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, calling the pact an important step toward regional security.
The leaders of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye signed the pact in Makkah earlier this month. The terms of the agreement state that an attack on any of the three member states will be treated as an attack against all of them.
Posting on TruthSocial, Trump welcomed the signing of the agreement. “Very happy to see that Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan have recently, and finally, signed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement,” Trump stated, adding that the pact reflects integration in the Middle East and improves defense capabilities across the region.
“Congratulations to the Great Leadership of the three Nations mentioned. THIS IS A BIG, BOLD, AND IMPORTANT FIRST STEP — WOW!” Trump wrote.
The signing of the pact coincided with heightened tensions between the US and Iran in the Middle East. Pakistani officials stated that the defense agreement does not target any specific nation.
Prior to Trump’s statement, Qatar and Palestine hailed the agreement.
Military ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia extend back to several decades, strengthened by a separate mutual defense pact signed in September 2025. Simultaneously, military and defense-industrial cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye has expanded.
The three signatory nations hold distinct strategic assets in the region. Saudi Arabia operates as an economic force with political reach among Gulf states. Pakistan stands as the only nuclear-armed Islamic nation, while Türkiye maintains NATO membership, a large standing military, and a growing domestic defense industry.
