Minister of State and Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib met OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Thursday.
Saqib said in a post on X that the two discussed AI infrastructure, education, skills development and talent, along with opportunities for greater engagement with OpenAI.
The meeting also covered ways for Pakistan to increase its participation in the global AI economy by using its young workforce, digital capacity and other resources.
A day earlier, Saqib addressed the Social Business, Youth and Technology Forum during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where he spoke about the changes emerging economies face as global financial systems evolve.
In his keynote, he said that artificial intelligence and tokenisation could serve as key tools for financial inclusion in developing countries, particularly for people who remain outside traditional financial systems.
Saqib argued that the challenge was no longer limited to access to technology but also involved the infrastructure and regulations needed to make these systems available.
