BBC Gladiators: New Series' Grand Return, Arguments and Audience Interests
The new series of the famous BBC show "Gladiators" caught the attention of viewers in recent days. In this series, the addition of new gladiators, interesting competitions, and some other controversial events have made a space in the news.
Inclusion of New Gladiators
Two new gladiators are introduced in this series. The first gladiator is the “Cyclone" and the second gladiator is the "Hammer". The real name of Cyclone is Lustus Ebosele. She is an Irish powerlifter and is known for her 5 feet 11 inch height and 15-inch arms. She had in her first competition impressed the viewers and contestants with her powerful performance. Cyclone says that she wants to prominent the power of women and wants to break the cheap concepts related to gender.
Hammer, whose real name is Tom Wilson, she is an international rowing champion. With the involvement of her, the Gladiators team has added more diversity and strength. It is expected that the show will become more popular by the inclusion of new gladiators.
Controversial Incidents and Safety Concerns
In recent episodes, one incident gained the attention of the viewers when the contestant Nicky Billingham beared a lot of injuries in "The Edge" event. During the competition with Gladiator "Dynamite" Nicky Billingham’s neck and arm were injured and medical assistance was required. After this incident, people called this event as “dangerous" and raised the question on its safety. In future there are possibilities of changes in this event so can be ensured the safety of contestants.
Program Hosting and New Events
Bradley and Barney Walsh are hosting this season and they introduced new events in the show. "Atlasspheres" is a previous favourite event that comes back in this season. In this event, gladiators are in large metal balls and try to get points. In addition, a new event "Unlash" has also been introduced and in this event, the contestants are started from the tunnel that is full of smoke and unknown gladiators followed them.
Viewers' Feedback and Criticism
Although the popularity of the show is increasing but some people have also criticised the changes that are included in it. The original host of the show John Fashanu, called the new version "whack" and said that it does not look like a real gladiator. He also said that the world has changed and changes were necessary in the show but a few changes are not compatible with the real soul of the show.
