Janelle Claims Kody Brown Spent ‘Lots’ of Family Money

Janelle announced her separation from Kody Brown in December 2022. After their separation, Janelle Brown is reviewing her marriage to Kody Brown regarding their finances. She has more to say about the split. 

On the January 26 episode of Sister Wives, Janelle spoke with Christine Brown and said, “I never felt like I had much control over my own money because everybody was pulling from the same account.” 

Janelle said it was good to have a family fund when they were a plural unit. However, looking back, I see that everyone has a problem with money. "It was really difficult," Janelle said. "We came together deciding how to budget, which bill to prioritize, and so on."

Janelle Claims Kody Brown Spent More of Family Money

Janelle revealed that they were much more financially open with one another during the first years of their plural marriage. She explained, “We had a say on what bills were to be paid, how payment was to be made, and who was to be given priority.”

They shared finances this way when she married Kody in 1993, three years after he married Meri Brown. This pattern stayed as Kody married Christine Brown in 1994 and Robyn in 2010.

“Then, the last several years, Kody would just take out funds, and I don’t know what for,” Janelle revealed. “And money was just being blown on a lot of things. It was just really difficult toward the end.

Kod thought he had less justification for spending if he had more kids. “I was a father to 18 and a husband to more than just Janelle,” he said. “There was a lot of money that did not need to be directed towards Janelle’s business.” 

Kody Brown insists that much of the spending was used for cars, schooling, and insurance for the children. However, Janelle and Meri do not believe this.

Kody Brown Claims Janelle Was Upset Over House Purchase Help

In the latest episode of Sister Wives, Janelle Brown criticizes her ex-husband, Kody Brown, for his selective memory. He claims he once tried to help her purchase a house. On a road trip with their former sister, Christine, Janelle recalls Kody and his current wife, Robyn, attempting to rewrite history regarding the division of family resources, especially after she sold her Las Vegas home in 2019. 

He claims Janelle was furious when he offered to help her buy a house. However, according to Janelle, he wanted her to purchase Christine's house, which she didn't want. She also indicates how she helped with her home purchase but feels she never got the chance. Christine asks why the funds from Janelle's house were sold towards Robyn's. The discussion touches upon continued animosity over money and fairness, particularly since the wives separated from Kody in recent years.
