A 14-year-old boy lost his life in the Chaliyar area of Khwazakhela, Swat district, after allegedly being brutally beaten by his madrassa (seminary) teachers.
Citing police, media reports claim that Farhan Ayaz was allegedly beaten for being absent from the religious seminary, resulting in his death.
According to police, the body has been moved to Khwazakhela Hospital for an autopsy, while an investigation has been initiated after two madrassa teachers were taken into custody from the hospital.
A case has been registered against three teachers involved in the incident: Muhammad Umar, his son Ehsanullah, and Abdullah. One of the suspects, Abdullah, has been apprehended, while raids are being carried out to arrest the remaining two.
The incident has sparked widespread anger and strong reactions among social media users, who are demanding a transparent investigation and strict punishment for the culprits.
The Human Rights Council of Pakistan (HRCP) issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), calling the incident a “shameful stain on humanity”.
“A madrassa should be a centre of education, not violence!” HRCP wrote, demanding that culprit teachers be given an exemplary punishment immediately.
“Silence against oppression is complicity in oppression,” it added.
