The federal budget for 2026-27 is unlikely to be presented on June 10 as originally planned, with government sources saying the schedule has been pushed back over pending procedural requirements.

According to reports, the Economic Survey has not yet been presented, and a cabinet meeting to approve budget proposals must take place before the document can be tabled in Parliament. The National Assembly is now expected to be summoned on short notice for June 12, when the budget is likely to be presented.

Government sources added that the administration plans to fast-track the process, with parliamentary debate expected to be kept brief. The government is looking to wrap up the budget’s passage before the 9th and 10th of Muharram, compressing the legislative timeline to clear all procedural steps ahead of the religious observances.

A formal announcement on the revised schedule is expected after cabinet approvals come through.

The delay also follows the PPP’s recent request for additional time to review budget proposals, with the government having assured the party of its inclusion in the budget-making process.
