An army captain embraced martyrdom while seven terrorists were killed in an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Hangu district, the military’s media wing reported Saturday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security personnel carried out the operation after receiving information regarding the presence of operatives linked to Fitna al-Khawarij on Friday.

Troops confronted the terrorists, prompting the group to take cover inside a mosque. Seven terrorists were killed in the resulting gun battle, the statement said.

During heavy firing, 27-year-old Captain Hamza Akram, who belonged to Narowal, lost his life while heading his team during the pursuit of the fighters.

Security personnel recovered weapons along with ammunition from the location, noting that the killed terrorists had participated in attacks targeting security personnel and civilians in recent days.

A clearance operation remains underway to search the surrounding area for remaining terrorists, the ISPR said.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi honoured the martyred captain and extended condolences to the family, stating that the officer sacrificed his life for the nation and will be remembered.

The development follows an earlier report from the military’s media wing detailing the killing of ten terrorists in separate clashes within KP.

Eight operatives were killed when troops repelled an assault on posts in South Waziristan’s Azam Warsak, while forces neutralised two additional fighters in Dir district.

In separate action, troops killed a militant commander named Jamidullah during a raid in the Jani Khel part of Bannu district.
