Fashion designer Deepak Perwani took to X to reveal that he has been robbed thrice in the past three months, losing a car, a motorcycle, and cash which was snatched at gunpoint.
In his post, Perwani also noted that the situation extends beyond his own losses. A worker’s house has been robbed twice this month, and another worker’s son was beaten for extortion money.
“Crime is on the rise in Karachi, people are dying, inflation is through the roof,” he wrote.
The post drew a wave of responses, with many users pointing to what they called a broader breakdown of law and order in the city. One user remarked that the situation was “too terribly dangerous at this point.”
Another urged Perwani to speak louder, adding that “we need to demand better.” One response went further, describing the country as “a hopeless graveyard”.
Several reactions carried a political edge, with users blaming the PPP’s decades-long hold over Sindh for the deteriorating conditions in Karachi. One user sarcastically nominated Perwani as a “tribute” in what they called the PPP’s “anti-Karachi” agenda.
Perwani, a seven-time Lux Style Award winner and Guinness World Record holder for designing the largest kurta in the world, has served as Pakistan’s cultural ambassador to China and Malaysia.
