Former West Indies all rounder Carlos Brathwaite praised Babar Azam’s captaincy after the Pakistan skipper’s attacking field placement helped remove West Indies captain Roston Chase during the second Test against West Indies.
While on commentary, Brathwaite said, “Well done, Babar Azam. Brilliant captaincy. Slowed the game down and gave Roston Chase time to overthink, simply by adjusting the field placements.”
The moment came with West Indies struggling at 103-5 in their second innings. Left arm spinner Ali Usman was bowling to Chase, who had crawled to 17 off 44 balls. Instead of spreading the field, Babar kept the pressure on with an aggressive setup that included one slip, a gully and a silly point.
With almost no easy scoring options available, Chase found himself under increasing pressure. After spending time at the crease without scoring freely, he attempted a shot but only managed to offer a catch to Ali Usman, bringing his innings to an end.
Brathwaite credited Babar’s tactical approach, saying that the Pakistan captain deliberately slowed the game by making repeated field adjustments.
Chase’s dismissal left West Indies at 103-6, with a lead of 60 runs in their second innings at stumps on Day 3.
Pakistan have dominated the match after taking a 43-run first innings lead, with Sajid Khan claiming four wickets and Ali Usman taking two. West Indies have only four wickets in hand and need to add valuable runs on the final day to set Pakistan a challenging target.
The match is the second and final Test of the series, with Pakistan aiming to level the series after losing the opening Test by 90 runs.
