A Crime Control Department (CCD) official in Rawalpindi has been suspended and arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening her daughter with a pistol following her family’s refusal of his marriage proposal, police said.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Jatli police station on August 13, according to the woman’s complaint.
Police registered a case against the official, identified as Bilal, son of Safdar, and arrested him. An investigation is under way.
The woman told police that she was travelling home to Nattha Chhattar from Daultala in a rickshaw with her mother and daughter at about 5pm when Bilal allegedly stopped the vehicle near Ban Kamal Shah.
She alleged that Bilal slapped her in front of her mother and daughter and verbally abused her. She further alleged that he drew a pistol and threatened to kill her and her daughter and damage her reputation.
According to her account, the rickshaw driver intervened and helped protect them during the confrontation.
The woman said that the alleged assault stemmed from Bilal’s request for her daughter’s hand in marriage, which the family had refused.
Hasan Jahangir Wattoo, Regional Police Officer for the CCD in Rawalpindi, suspended Bilal following the incident, according to police.
Jatli police subsequently registered a criminal case and took Bilal into custody.
Police said the investigation was continuing.
