Hamza Shehbaz took oath as Punjab Chief Minister today (Saturday, July 23). Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman administered the oath at Governor House Lahore.

Taking to Twitter, CM Punjab said he was grateful to God for his party’s success “once again”. He also thanked Asif Zardari, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and coalition partners “who played a key role in the strengthening of democracy in the country”.

Hamza Shehbaz retained the office of CM Punjab by securing 179 votes in the run-off elections held yesterday (Friday, July 22). Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi secured 186 votes but 10 PML-Q votes were not counted by Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari because of Chaudhry Shujaat’s letter, which turned the tables in favour of Hamza Shehbaz. In the final tally, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi secured 176 votes.
