Pakistani theatre and drama actress Rubi Anam is under fire after making remarks about veteran actress Bushra Ansari, suggesting she should retire instead of making vlogs. Several celebrities have called her comments disrespectful and unnecessary.
The actress made the remarks during her recent appearance on Sabih Sumair’s podcast.
"Bushra Ansari is my favourite. I like her a lot; if I say so, it would be a lie. She should rest at this age. She is not at that age now to take a camera and do vlogging," she said.
She went on to add, "She should fear Allah. What is she doing now that she is old? She is older than our mothers."
She also mentioned Bushra’s sister, Asma Abbas: "I have worked with Asma Abbas in a show. She loves me so much, gives me so much respect that I cannot say anything against her. I cannot tell her to stop now. Don’t overshoot so much. She is also working on TV, doing serials. Despite this, what is the need for her to do vlogging while shopping for clothes and shoes?"
Ruby further commented: "She wears a lot of makeup on her face, while she is not even that beautiful."
Talking about her own appearance, she said: "I have not undergone any kind of surgery on my face. This is my natural beauty." She added, "I keep a few drops of Zam Zam water in a bottle of rose water and sprinkle it on my face every day. That is why my face remains fresh and youthful."
Ruby Anam’s remarks quickly drew backlash from fellow celebrities.
Actress Zhalay Sarhadi strongly condemned the statement, saying: "Incredibly out of line, intrusive, rude and disrespectful. Why must such people spew needless opinions? To get viral? Is that it? Such a disgrace."
Actress Mamya Shajaffar also expressed disappointment: "Breaks my heart how women always bring other women down."
Singer Ghania Ali added, "Ok, I found her extremely rude, period!"
