Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has assured Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that cases concerning access to party founder Imran Khan will be fixed for hearing immediately after Eid ul Azha.

The assurance targets petitions seeking access to family members, counsel and a personal physician for the former prime minister, who remains incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

The commitment from the CJP came during a meeting with PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja. Prior to the meeting, Raja had led a brief sit-in outside the Supreme Court (SC) building following an Islamabad High Court (IHC) hearing regarding the £190 million corruption case involving Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi.

Following the interaction with the CJP Raja updated the media on the development.

He stated that the CJP assured him that “all petitions and applications relating to Imran would be scheduled for hearing after Eid falling on May 27”.

Raja had apprised the CJP regarding an appeal pending before the apex court since October 2025. This application challenges an IHC order regarding the regularisation of meetings with Khan.

He also raised the issue of a separate pending application filed by Khan’s sisters, which had not yet been taken up by the court.

According to Raja, the CJP issued instructions to senior SC officials to ensure the scheduling of these matters. Raja expressed confidence to members of the press, stating that he believed the party “would receive a favourable decision regarding permission to meet Imran soon after Eid”.

Separately, Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, filed a petition challenging the IHC ruling that denied requests to shift the PTI founder to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. Her petition seeks medical examinations conducted by a personal panel of doctors, including Dr Khurram Mirza, Dr Asim Yusuf, Dr Faisal Sultan, and Dr Samina Niazi.

Members of the PTI legal team then ended their demonstration outside the apex court. PTI legal team member Intezar Panjutha confirmed that “the lawyers staging a sit-in outside the SC premises had called off their protest and left”.
