A woman who killed her three young children in Lahore’s Ichhra area on Thursday has confessed to the murders, revealing that she wanted to divorce her husband and remarry another man.

The accused, identified as Rida, had initially attempted to blame her in-laws for the deaths of five-year-old Mominah Batool, four-year-old Momin Raza, and 18-month-old Umm-e-Habiba, whose throats were slit inside their residence.

Footage from the scene showed Rida appearing calm and composed, telling investigators: “My blood pressure was low, it was also low the night before, I had to get a drip. The children were alive. We locked the house and went out. No one came inside. How the children were killed, I don’t know.”

During questioning, she confessed to the murders and told police she wanted to divorce her husband Ramzan and marry a man named Shaheryar from Jhang. She stayed in daily contact with him over the phone and also received money from him through a mobile app.

She told investigators she saw her children as the biggest obstacle standing in the way of that marriage.

Police sources say she purchased the knife used in the killings a day before the incident. Call data records further confirmed the facts of the case.

A court has remanded her into police custody for five days as investigation continues.
