Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sohail Afridi’s government might be on its way out as national security concerns pile up, a private media outlet quoted sources as saying.
According to reports, the decision has been taken after allegations that CM Afridi and his associates “are working with terrorists to weaken Pakistan”, which is contributing to the rise in terrorism in the country.
While reports said the decision to remove the government has nothing to do with the ruling PTI’s planned long march towards Islamabad, it comes as PTI postpones its long march, with the party saying it wanted to “play a Test match” with the federal government and tire it out.
Meanwhile, journalist Shahzad Iqbal said that key PTI sources had confirmed that the long march had been postponed but rejected the impression that the party was not prepared for it.
“According to the sources, there was no issue with preparations. The public was mobilised and ready for the march,” Shahzad said.
However, he added that sources said that the government was looking at the situation differently. “If the PTI wants to hold the long march, let it; if it wants to postpone it, let it,” he quoted decision makers as saying.
According to reports, the long march is no longer the main concern as the main problem now is national security.
