Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sohail Afridi’s government faces a no-confidence threat within PTI, with former party star Sher Afzal Marwat saying that 35 MPAs are ready to revolt, and that the government will not survive even if the party manages to hold its Islamabad march.
Marwat’s remarks came amid reports of differences within PTI leadership over Afridi, with the party having postponed its planned Islamabad protest from Sept 27 to Oct 4.
Speaking about the matter on a private news channel’s programme, Marwat confirmed a private media outlet’s report about differences within the PTI leadership and said that PTI founder Imran Khan had conveyed a message about Sohail Afridi through his lawyer Salman Safdar.
According to Marwat, Imran Khan told Salman Safdar that the Islamabad march may be beyond Afridi’s capabilities and that the KP chief minister should step down.
Marwat stated that Bushra Bibi’s family and Nooreen Niazi also confirmed that Imran Khan had sent messages regarding Afridi. He added that Imran Khan discussed other matters concerning the chief minister with Nooreen Niazi in the presence of Bushra Bibi.
Marwat further said that Nooreen Niazi told Imran Khan that former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur had formed a pressure group to thwart Afridi.
Marwat stated that Nooreen Niazi also told Imran Khan that 35 MPAs were ready to revolt against Afridi. Imran Khan then asked Nooreen Niazi what the lawmakers were demanding. Nooreen Niazi told him that the lawmakers believed Afridi was incapable of doing anything, Marwat said.
He stated that Imran Khan told Nooreen Niazi that the MPAs’ criticism was correct.
Marwat also claimed that Afridi’s government will not survive even if PTI succeeds in holding the Islamabad march.
