Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has approved 10-day Basant celebrations in Lahore from January 29 to February 7, 2027, with a one-day break on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day.
While the Punjab government aims to hold the festival to mark the arrival of the new year and promote the cultural traditions and heritage of Lahore and Punjab, Information Minister Azma Bokhari quoted CM Maryam as urging citizens to act responsibly during the festivities and prioritise the protection of human lives.
CM Maryam also called on the public to follow safety measures and show the same sense of responsibility and civic sense seen during the 2026 Basant celebrations.
Basant returned to Lahore earlier this year after a 25-year suspension, with celebrations held from February 6 to 8.
The traditional kite-flying festival had remained suspended for years over safety concerns, particularly the use of dangerous kite strings. The 2026 celebrations marked its return to Lahore after the long suspension and generated billions in business activity.
For the 2027 festival, the provincial info minister said, CM Maryam has directed the administration to make arrangements for citizens’ safety and convenience beyond those made in 2026.
