Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has said that she will resign if even a single rupee of corruption is proven against her, while acknowledging that corrupt practices still exist in government departments.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Punjab Innovation for Value Creation and Transformation project in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said that she was not claiming that corruption had been completely eliminated from the province.

However, she said that her government was taking action against officials involved in bribery and working to ensure that citizens could get their legitimate work done without paying money.

“Government employees found taking bribes are being dismissed from service and action against corrupt officials is continuing in the Environment Department and other institutions,” she remarked.

The chief minister acknowledged that citizens were still told in some government offices that their work would not be completed unless they paid money. She stated that the government was aware of the practice and was working to change the system.

Maryam Nawaz also stated that Punjab contributed a significant share to the country’s national GDP. She also added that the government had removed encroachments across the province, including those that had remained in place for 25 years.

She added that the removal of illegal encroachments had allowed markets to expand across the province.
